We care about Derby…
…and for all that’s great about our city, we know we can make it even better.
Under Labour leadership Derby is stagnating and being held back by the dogged pursuit of political agendas. Decisions are being made that are designed to put the council in constant conflict with government. Resources and funding are also being deliberately targeted based on biased political priorities, creating division and resentment across the city.
It does not have to be this way.
We believe that Derby can be amongst the most modern, vibrant cities in the country – but only if the council has leadership required to make that happen.
A Conservative Council will have the new approach that is needed to take us forward together, as one city. We will both recognise and celebrate the diversity that exists in our city and ensure that every community is treated fairly and with respect. We will end the current conflict between the public and the council.
We are pledging to be the most open and transparent council administration in Derby’s history. We will actively seek the involvement of the public and community groups to form and steer policy based on our key principles that will apply to everything the Council does.
We will work with the public and private sectors to rejuvenate and invigorate the City Centre. We will work hard to see the development of Friar Gate goods yard, Duckworth Square and Riverlights.
We will ensure our City Centre, Sadler Gate, The Strand, The Wardwick and Friar Gate thrive. Empty shops can be filled and our night time economy will be robustly supported because we want to make Derby the destination of choice for both local residents and those from further afield.
Derby also needs viable plans for new facilities that can be delivered. We will deliver a new Waterpark and Swimming Pool complex and we will make re-opening The Assembly Rooms a priority.
Too often Derby has been let down by a lack of vision and a genuine belief that we can succeed. The current Labour Council seems to thrive on this negative approach.
The Conservatives offer a different approach. We believe that by taking the initiative and being innovative and positive, a council with Conservative leadership can deliver a modern, bright and thriving city.
On May 5th you can vote to start the much-needed process of change. Lend us your support to transform our city and to put in place a plan to deliver facilities for all and that offers opportunity and investment.
Labour would have you believe that is impossible, but we challenge that view and are confident we can deliver for Derby.
