A new Sports Village and Swimming Pool for Derby

The Conservative led council in Derby is pressing ahead with plans for a sports village at Moorways in Derby.

The existing stadium and athletics track will be complemented by the delivery of the new pool and water park to create Moorways Sports Village

Cllr Robin Wood, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture, said:

“Moorways Sports Village will be a real destination for the City. The athletics stadium combined with the new 50m pool and waterpark will provide attractive, healthy and fun opportunities.”

A wide range of facilities will be available on the site including the indoor water park, 50m pool, extensive health and fitness experience, soft play, athletics stadium and track along with a number of sport pitches.

It’s expected that having a wide range of activities in one place will make Moorways Sports Village an attractive destination for residents and visitors. In particular the water park is expected to be a popular attraction. It will feature two four storey flumes along with England’s first wave generating Wow ball and Wave rider slide. For younger visitors there will also be an indoor water playground and beach area.

The 50m pool will have the flexibility to be divided into three separate 25m pools. A learner pool will complement the main 50m pool and can be used for a variety of lessons and sessions.

Site works are expected to start before the end of November 2019 with the £42 million project expected to be completed in late 2021.
