Derbyshire County Council is the upper-tier local authority for the non-metropolitan county of Derbyshire. Covering the whole of Derbyshire with the exception of the city of Derby, the County Council work with a second tier of local government – district or borough councils – to manage services for the community.

There is also a network of elected parish and town councils, which often run most local services such as community halls, cemeteries and allotments.

Derbyshire County Council has 64 county councillors, one elected for each county division. The council is controlled by the Labour Party, who won control of the council in the 2013 local council elections in May 2013. The next election is in 2017.
